Abstract Celestialism

Depth and distance are synonymous but the use and meaning of these metrics depend on the perspective of the viewer. Depth is in reference to the waters, it is naturally associated with a downward trajectory. Distance is more open to interpretation though it is often used in terms of height or transient space; across and afar. The deeper we go the darker the waters become, the higher we fly, the brighter the stars seem to shine. The piece inverts the rule of direction by placing the depths on the top of the composition and the distances on the bottom. The imposing and all consuming darkness of the deep hangs over the light and free openness of the cosmic heights. The color shift from illumination to obscurity is clean and gradient showing a clear division of the heavenly waters (the star ocean) and the earthly waters (the briny deep).
