The Great Walls of Jericho (Jericho's Fall)

Project type

Acrylic and Metallics on Canvas

Date

2024

De Stijl Celestialism

The long and narrow vertical form of the canvas frames the perspective of Jericho’s vaulting walls as they tower overhead, imposing and overbearing on the desert surrounding it. Strong earthen tones mixed with metallics bring a strong metalclad feeling to the walls as though they were permanent fixtures not keen to be moved or felled. The desert sands likewise are mixed with gold and bronze metals showing a more pure and natural tone of surety, epitomized by the perfect golden circular presence of God who shines amongst the Israelites. The harsh angled rays of his power divide the image into segments, showing his position over the titanic defenses as the ultimate deciding power. Overall, the simple geometric composition of the subject and the brilliant metallic shine to the components brings a dream-like quality to the tale of Jericho.
